Child psychology and the whole family
A child does not get calmer if the two adults at home use two scripts. Family work is part of psychology here, not an optional add-on.
Written by the Inclusive Developmental and Therapy Center therapy team — our Speech & Language Therapist, psychology and ABA staff. This page is awaiting its clinical review.
Who has to be in the plan
The adults who actually put the child to bed. A helper who raises them on weekdays. Siblings who take the leftovers of everyone’s patience. Fathers and therapy, siblings, when parents disagree.
What we practise
One calm sentence at the doorway. A recovery that is not a lecture. A night-time script that does not undo the afternoon. Parent wellbeing is not selfish: looking after yourself, little reminders.
When parents disagree
Say so. A plan that only one adult will run will not run. Coaching: parent coaching.
The plan that only one adult will run will not run
Grandparents, a helper, a father who travels: whoever spends the afternoon needs the same two responses. Coaching can include them, in Urdu or English. When parents disagree about therapy, say so in the room rather than running two opposite houses. When parents disagree if that is the week.
Siblings need looking after too: siblings. Parent wellbeing is not a luxury page: parent wellbeing, little reminders. The child psychologist still leads the feelings work; ABA leads when the job of the behaviour is the wall.
The idea behind the work (in the books)
Most of the change happens in the hours we are not there. The family script is part of the work.
Bowlby — the base is at home
We coach the adult who is the base, not only the child in our room.
Kazdin — the parent delivers the consequence
Everyone in the house, grandparents included, needs the same two responses or the week unravels.
What the research tells us
This isn’t just our opinion — it’s grounded in published research. Here are a few findings from trusted, independent sources:
A Cochrane review of 87 studies found that CBT for childhood anxiety leaves far more children free of their main anxiety diagnosis than a waiting list: around 49 in 100 after CBT, versus around 18 in 100 with no treatment (moderate-quality evidence).
— Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews — James, Reardon, Soler, James and Creswell (2020), CD013162. View sourceCheng and colleagues (2023) meta-analysed parent-implemented interventions. Overall benefits were moderate; adaptive behaviour and life-skills effects were the smallest. Coaching helps. It is not a guarantee of independence.

Take a worksheet home
Print one sheet. Fill it in this week. Bring it to the consultation — a consultation is Rs 1,500 and lasts up to 50 minutes.
Feelings chart
Name the feeling before you fix it.
Calm-down plan
A short sequence for after a flood, not a lecture in the middle of one.
Big-feelings program (PDF)
Name it, then one coping step.
Book a consultation
Contact owner Muhammad Salman Afzal first. No referral needed. A consultation is Rs 1,500 and lasts up to 50 minutes.
Family — questions parents ask
The father cannot come.
Then he gets one WhatsApp line from the plan so he is not the 9pm undo. We have seen this split across South Punjab. It is workable.
We are separated.
Tell us. Two houses need two copies of the same three lines, not a loyalty test for the child.
Is this family therapy?
It is child psychology with the family inside the plan. We do not run adult couple therapy.
How do we start?
A consultation is Rs 1,500 and lasts up to 50 minutes. Both adults are welcome. One is enough to begin.
Can grandparents join?
Yes, and it often helps. The person who spends the afternoon with your child should hear the same two strategies.
Ask about family
A short, friendly conversation is the best first step. Call, text or WhatsApp us — we’ll listen and guide you, with no pressure.
