What a life-skills session looks like
A life-skills session is one real job — a shoe, a lunch box, a flush — taught last-step-first, with a prompt we then fade. Not a lecture about independence.

The shape of the hour
You describe or show the routine that fails. We pick one step. We practise in the room that matches the job when we can. Pillar: life skills. Teens: school-age life skills.
Who delivers it
Mahnoor’s plan. ABA daily-living hours often with Noor. Buttons and spoons also sit with motor skills — not licensed OT.
Real clothes, real food, real toilet
Pretend toast teaches pretend toast. We practise in the room that matches the job when we can. You can film the morning that fails — that video is more useful than a questionnaire.
Noor often delivers the ABA daily-living hours: Noor Fatima. Motor overlap: motor skills — not licensed OT.
One skill this month
Twelve goals is how mornings collapse. We pick one step, decide who prompts, and how we fade. Ten days, then we look at the ticks.
Practise in the real bathroom if we can
A pretend toilet at a table is a last resort. Pillar: life skills. Motor overlap is not licensed OT: motor and daily skills.
One job, in the room that matches it
A pretend toilet at a table is a last resort. Film the real morning if you can. We pick one step and who prompts. ABA hours for daily living often sit with Noor Fatima. Motor pieces (buttons, a spoon) sit with motor and daily skills — still not licensed OT.
Toileting that has stalled: constipation and pain first. School toilet: asking, clothing, a known stall. Chart: toilet-training chart. Guide: gentle toilet training.
The idea behind the work (in the books)
The hour is one job, last step first, in the room that matches the job.
Cooper, Heron and Heward — backward chaining
Teach the last step first so they finish and meet the natural reward — dressed, fed, flushed. Then hand the earlier steps back.
Sparrow — Vineland as a map
Independence is what they actually do, not what they can do if you stand there. We do not reproduce the Vineland.
What the research tells us
This isn’t just our opinion — it’s grounded in published research. Here are a few findings from trusted, independent sources:
Cheng and colleagues (2023) meta-analysed parent-implemented interventions. Overall benefits were moderate; adaptive behaviour and life-skills effects were the smallest. Coaching helps. It is not a guarantee of independence.

Yes, when we can. Pretend toast teaches pretend toast.
How many skills at once?
One this month. Twelve at once is how mornings collapse.
Can we practise only in clinic?
You can start here. The job still has to live at home. That is why coaching exists.
How many skills in one session?
One. Twelve at once is how mornings collapse.
