Inside a session

What a school-readiness session looks like

A school-readiness session is a short sit, one instruction, a task that ends, and a goodbye that actually ends. Letters wait until those are kind.

The shape of the hour

Akasha delivers the hours under Mahnoor’s plan. Individual goals, prompting then fading, task analysis. How she works: Akasha on school readiness. Pillar: school readiness programme.

What you take home

One routine — breakfast, the bag, the door. Checklist: printable.

What Akasha actually does in the hour

Individual goals. Structured activity. Prompt, then fade. Task analysis — one step at a time. Progress is this child, not a neighbour’s five-year-old. Her page: how Akasha works.

Contact the owner first. Beaconhouse sitting-before-letters is her frame: Mahnoor on readiness.

What you take to the teacher

A one-page list, not a file. About my child, letter. If school has not started, the door at home is still the exam.

Who delivers the hour

Contact owner Muhammad Salman Afzal first. Psychologist Akasha Tariq delivers school-readiness hours under that plan. Pillar: school readiness.

Two skills from ordinary days

You tell us what the next classroom will actually demand. We pick two skills that failed on ordinary days — sitting, a two-step instruction, asking for help, a goodbye. Practise in a short sit, prompt, fade. Letters are taught at school.

Contact owner Muhammad Salman Afzal first. Akasha delivers the hours. If sitting is the whole gap: sitting. If school already has a door: classroom.

The idea behind the work (in the books)

The hour is a short sit, a two-step instruction, a goodbye that ends — not ABC as a trophy.

  • Blair and Raver — readiness as self-regulation

Holding a rule, waiting, switching. Letters sit on top of that, they are not a substitute for it.

  • Vygotsky — ZPD

Pitch the sit where success is likely with a prompt, then fade. A worksheet they already fail is not a ZPD.

These are teaching ideas, named so you can look them up. Naming a book is not a claim that we run a certified programme of that name — if we do not, the page says so.

What the research tells us

This isn’t just our opinion — it’s grounded in published research. Here are a few findings from trusted, independent sources:

  • Blair and Raver (Annual Review of Psychology, 2015) treat school readiness as self-regulation — holding a rule, waiting, switching — which sets the stage for letters and numbers rather than replacing them.
